Report: Apple May Introduce MagSafe Charging, Similar to iPhone, to iPad Pro by 2024

Apple is widely expected to revamp its entire iPad lineup next year, given the lack of new releases throughout 2023. One model in particular that may experience big changes is the iPad Pro. According to Mark Gurman, not only is the Pro series expected to switch to OLED panels past miniLED and LCD displays, but now MacRumors is reporting that it may also get MagSafe charging.

This information was revealed by a source who knows the companies that make magnets for Apple products.

You might be wondering how the iPad Pro can charge wirelessly with its metal body. First, it is possible that Apple will redesign the iPad Pro with a glass back, but this has not been confirmed. However, this would make the models more fragile due to the large glass area.

Another possibility is that the iPad will get MagSafe charging like the Mac. MacRumors notes that Apple is working on a “Mac-like” aluminum Magic keyboard for the iPad, so MagSafe could be for that, but for now these are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Other industry insiders and experts, including Mark Gurman, have previously stated that Apple was planning a glass back for the iPad Pro 2022, but of course that never made it to the public. However, it could be possible that Apple delayed it for a future release, and it could very well be the next generation iPad Pro that will be released next year. It’s also worth noting that the current iPad Pro lineup has had roughly the same design since 2018, so an overhaul might be in order.
